Andrew Johnson met his first love at university. They were an inseparable couple for almost three years. When he first made a proposal of marriage she asked for time to consider it. With the approach of their final exams they began to see less of each other. When the exams were over she seemed a bit distant and it soon became obvious to him that they were no longer the inseparable couple that they once were. When he gently reminded her that he was waiting for an answer to his proposal she told him that she had accepted an overseas job offer. He sensed then that she wanted to end their relationship and he was right.
It took Andrew a long time to get over the pain of losing her and he vowed never to fall in love again. By the time he was 30, he was a successful accountant totally immersed in his career. From time to time memories of his first love returned. The pain of losing her, although much less intense, still returned. He had been on a few dates since leaving university and even had a brief relationship but at no time had he met anyone that he wanted to have a long term relationship with let alone make a proposal of marriage to. He despaired of meeting anyone that he could fall head of over heels in love with.
One evening at a house warming party of a friend he found himself chatting to a couple who not only appeared to be very happy but were obviously very much in love. In the course of the conversation he discovered that they had met through an internet dating site. "Maybe I should give it a try" he thought. "If it worked for them why should it not work for me"
The day of the first date that he had arranged through the internet had arrived. He nervously entered the wine bar, ordered a glass of wine and found a quiet corner to sit in. He was so nervous that he did not notice her still she was standing in front of his table. "Hello Andrew," she said and flashed him a devastating smile. He knew at once that never again would he be troubled by memories of his first love.
